Supportive Services for Veteran Families

Our Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) is funded by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs and private donors.* Easterseals Oregon administers SSVF in Multnomah, Marion, and Polk Counties. The Program provides supportive services for low or very low-income Veteran families residing in or transitioning to permanent housing.  

Services offered, as they relate to housing stability:

• Outreach Services
• Case Management Services
• Assistance with applying for VA benefits
• Assistance with obtaining other public benefits and needed services within the community
• Limited financial assistance when necessary to stabilize housing
• Housing Placement Services
• Referrals to employment services (provided through Easterseals Oregon)

Program Eligibility

• Head of household or spouse of head of household must be a veteran. *
• Household annual income cannot exceed 80% of the Multnomah or Marion/Polk County area median income (AMI)
• Household must be homeless or at imminent risk of becoming homeless
• Household needs only short-term temporary assistance to stabilize permanent housing

* Veteran is defined as a person who has served in any branch of the United States military who was discharged or released under conditions other than dishonorable. National Guard requires federal activation to be eligible.

**Homeless Or At Imminent Risk of Becoming Homeless is Defined As One of the Following:

• At risk of losing permanent housing (i.e. possess an eviction notice or scheduled eviction court date)
• Living on the street or in housing that is not meant for human habitation (i.e. park, vehicle, condemned housing)
• Currently living in a shelter or other transitional housing program serving the homeless
• Fleeing or attempting to flee domestic violence

Documentation Required to Enroll in SSVF:

• Photo ID for all adults in the household
• DD Form 214 that shows discharge status (SSVF cannot serve individuals with a dishonorable discharge status)
• Proof of all household income
• Copies of lease or landlord agreement (if currently housed)
• Copy of eviction or notice to vacate
• Social Security cards of all members of the household
• Other as needed by intake staff to determine eligibility

CARF International is an independent, nonprofit accreditor that evaluates and certifies programs serving people with disabilities, seniors, veterans, and those needing rehabilitation, behavioral health, employment, or community support services. When a program or organization is CARF-accredited, it has voluntarily gone through an in-depth peer review process and demonstrated to CARF surveyors that it:

*Easterseals Oregon’s Veteran Housing Program, Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF), is supported by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. A total of $5,965,058 or 99%, of the program is financed with federal funds, and $59,651, or 1.5% percent, is funded by other sources.
